The Strange Times of Dr. Herbert R. Axelrod

Dr. Herbert R. Axelrod has probably been the most influential forces behind the tropical fish hobby in the US, if not the world. He’s very controversial and quite a personality.

I found this fantastic, and detailed, Sports Illustrated article about him written in 1965! That’s before I was born! It’s titled The Strange Fish and Stranger Times of Dr. Herbert R. Axelrod.

Dr. Herbert R. Axelrod is the great panjandrum of the tropical-fish world. Dr. Herbert R. Axelrod—the title and full name are always run together by admirers as though they were one word—is without rival in the burgeoning world of tropical fish.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and I hope you do as well.

I WORKED FOR DR AXELROD MANY YRS AGO ON HIS FISHING BOAT. I’M NOT SURE WHAT THEY SAY IS TRUE OR NOT AND DON’T CARE. DR AXELROD AND HIS WIFE WERE TWO OF THE NICEST PEOPLE I HAVE EVER MET.DR AXLEROD TAUGHT ME ALOT IN THE SHORT TIME I KNEW HIM AND I ONLY WISH I COULD HAVE SPENT MORE TIME WITH HIM. HE NEVER TREATED ME AS AN EMPLOYEE BUT MORE AS FAMILY.

DOC IF YOU READ THIS I HOPE YOU AND AUNT EVE ARE HEALTHY AND DOING WELL !!!!!
